"A Killer in the Rye" is the next in the Delia Rosen Murray's Deli series and it is every bit as entertaining as its predecessor. Gwen Katz is recently divorced and in charge of her Uncle Murray's Kosher Deli in Nashville, Tennessee. Gwen is lost and anxious as she prepares an important catering event in the hope of having the deli named as the best in Nashville, an honor which would respect her deceased uncle and his hard work in establishing the reputation of the deli. Gwen finds herself short of bread and calls the baker who promises delivery early the next morning, the morning of the important catering event. When Gwen gets to the deli, she finds the delivery man dead in his truck. This begins a series of events which find Gwen smack dab in the middle of confusing romantic relationships and family history which threaten to undermine everything she seeks for her own peace of mind.

Delia Rosen is a master at character development. Her character of Gwen is unforgettable. The self-dialogues, self-critiques and speculations about self-motivation and damnation make the book very impressive. Most readers will surely relate to the lead character with her charm, her honesty and her all-too-obvious human flaws. Thomasina is also a delight with her absolute moral values and her willingness to set boundaries and expectations about those she values. Gwen's potential lovers are so well-described that readers will laugh at Gwen's choices and decisions which threaten to leave her as alone as when she left New York. I particularly laughed at Gwen's potential assessment of others' intentions toward her. It is a trait that readers will also see in themselves. This is a charming book which will appeal to readers on many levels.
