Don’t you just hate it when the last page looms too near? When you don’t want to see the words end? When the story is the perfect tonic to an otherwise mediocre day? A Moment for Tara by Tamar Sloan is that book. BFFs Tara, Noah, and Mitch cannot imagine a life with one of their three parts absent. Together since birth, their goal is to remain such for a lifetime, living as modern day werewolves. But something happens that changes everything. When Alpha-born Noah does not “change” on his sixteenth birthday, Tara’s newly discovered dreams of bonding with a Phalen are dashed. Never would her father, leader of the Channons, allow her to bond with a member of a disgraced pack. In addition, word circulates that the Glade is to be sold, eliminating freedom for both families to exist comfortably.
Teen fiction in the form of a subtle fantasy, this young adult romance moves at just the right pace. Without dwelling on the fact that her main characters are werewolves, author Tamar Sloan develops a story rich in vivid detail and colorful description. I feel that the novel’s werewolf theme is secondary to the depth of the author’s mastery of the English language. Compared to Stephenie Meyer, Lauren Kate and Maggie Stiefvater, this author captures all the best of these epic story tellers. A prequel to Prophecy Awakened, Book 1 in the Prime Prophecy Series, A Moment for Tara is a wonderful surprise. I cannot wait to read more from Tamar Sloan!
