Paullett Golden presents a captivating historical romance in A Sporting Affair: The Corinthians, Book One. What would happen if two people found themselves forced into a betrothal with someone they had never met? Rafe Fitz-Stephens aimed to surprise his family by arriving home for the annual week-long Fracas Frolic. Instead, he now finds himself betrothed to the daughter of a man who despises responsibility. Genevieve Slade never had a say in this arrangement. Ever the dutiful and obedient daughter, she will attempt to persuade her father that the match is wrong. What she truly desires is more stability in her life. Rafe, however, as the perfect gentleman, seems eager to get to know Genevieve. Will they be able to amicably dissolve this forced betrothal and maintain their reputations? Or will they confront the growing feelings they have for one another?
Author Paullett Golden will immerse you in the Regency era from the very first page. Flirtatious and witty dialogue propels the pace forward. Character portrayal is executed with grace and precision, making the entire cast relatable and likable. Written in the third-person narrative from the perspectives of the two main characters certainly adds depth to the story. This is a clean love story that conveys real emotions from two people navigating life and love. Their doubts, hopes, and vulnerabilities are laid bare for the reader, making this story worth the time. If you enjoy the courting rituals of the nineteenth century, you will love A Sporting Affair. I certainly look forward to the next book.
