In A Superpower For Me, Mariana Llanos has written about a superpower few people realize they have. This superpower is a power that people gain as soon as they turn eighteen. It took me a while to guess the superpower and it may be a surprise for you too. I read A Superpower For Me with my 4-year-old, thinking that it would be more about superheroes. I was a little surprised that it was about a power that is still super, but in the eyes of a 4-year-old not as exciting. She did enjoy the story leading up to the surprise power reveal and even tried guessing what the power might be. Still, my daughter and I both loved the eye-catching illustrations.

In my opinion, the book is interesting and shed light on the importance of voting. At the end of the book, Llanos added some interesting facts about voting. I even learned a few things that I did not know such as: “In 1867, one vote in Congress decided the purchase of the Alaska Territory.” I can see this being a good book to hand out around elections. I honestly cannot think of a better time for this book to come out than now. There is a very important presidential election coming soon and people need to be reminded that they have the power to vote. I recommend this book for kids from ages 6 to 12. I also recommend adults ages 18 and older to read this book.
