In An Eye for an Eye: The Mallet Murders by Denny Darke, anything could happen in the small Nova Scotia town of Yeovilton County. A doctor was killed in her house with such force to her head that one eye popped out of its socket. Three of her fingers were cut off, and her expensive cat was missing. Detective Sergeant Daryl Smith was transferred to Nova Scotia as a fisheries officer to address the increasing incidents of lobster theft and illegal fishing activities. This was a collaborative task force, but Daryl preferred the thrill of investigating a serial killer. Yvonne Sparks, an experienced profiler with several years of experience at Quantico, guided Daryl through the intricacies of his role. The Maçon brothers were infamous in Yeovilton County, and Saul had earned significant wealth from breeding expensive cats.

In An Eye for an Eye by Denny Darke, I was engrossed in this captivating story laced with dark humor. From the beginning to the conclusion, I was engaged by both the wit and the suspense. This was far from an ordinary murder mystery, and some moments had me laughing heartily. The surprising twists and turns kept me eagerly flipping through the pages. The detailed descriptions of the murders left little to the imagination. The characters were well-developed, with some displaying unexpected qualities. Daryl and Yvonne formed a fantastic partnership, and by leveraging their skills, they worked to uncover the murderer's identity. The killer showed no hesitation while committing the murders. The writing style blended darkness with a distinctive touch of satire and absurdity. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this story.
