In the heart of a raging blizzard, Sheriff Jeff McQuede discovers a woman frozen to death in her car. At first he believes her death to be an unfortunate accident--until he finds clues that point to cold-blooded murder. So many people would benefit from her death - her husband, her estranged daughter, and her business partner.

I loved the setting in An Icy Death: The High Country Mystery Series Book 5 by Loretta Jackson and Vickie Britton. The cold, brutal Wyoming winter is the perfect setting for a book that you want to curl up in front of the fire with and never stop reading. The bitter cold really helped pull the story together. It was so much more than just a setting, it was part of the story. The fact that a woman froze to death is such a tangible fact. This story couldn't have taken place in sunny Florida or South America. It could only happen in the frigid tundra of Wyoming, which is why this was the absolutely perfect setting. I never for once doubted that this story happened where the author said it did and I often forgot that I was reading fiction and not a newspaper headline.

I also liked the fact that no one was ever sure that the murder was really a murder. At first, it appeared to be a tragic accident. Even as the deputy learned more about the deceased and different motives emerged, the reader was never 100 percent sure. Should we be interrogating this person? Was the husband at fault? Or was this a simple act of ugly nature? Nice job!
