Are We There Yet? by Melissa Abraham is a delightful children’s story that captures the boundless imagination of a young girl named Sareta during a journey with her mother. As they travel to Aunt Abi's house, Sareta's curiosity transforms an ordinary trip into a world of wonder, filled with fantastical creatures, magical houses, and playful questions. Through Sareta's vibrant perspective, simple moments become exciting adventures, and her questions invite readers to see the world through a child’s eyes. At its heart, the book celebrates imagination, curiosity, and the special bond between a child and a patient, loving parent.
Are We There Yet? does a fantastic job of capturing the playful and curious spirit of childhood. Sareta's endless stream of questions is authentic and charming, perfectly reflecting how children explore and interpret the world around them. The pacing flows naturally, with Sareta's imagination driving the narrative in a way that is both engaging and whimsical. The relationship between Sareta and her mother is beautifully written, with the mother's patient responses showing warmth and understanding. I especially loved how the story encourages both children and adults to find magic in the ordinary and to embrace curiosity as a source of joy. Melissa Abraham's simple yet effective writing style makes the story accessible to young readers, while the playful scenarios keep it entertaining. The illustrations by Simone Douglas are lovely and captivating, adding to the book's appeal. This book isn’t just about a journey to a destination—it’s about savoring every question, thought, and imaginative leap along the way.
