Featuring mystery and murder, As Told By Us by Gabriella Meghan is a captivating story that explores the life of Layla Crimson, a young woman exploring her sexuality and indulging without bounds in lesbian relationships. Layla’s four years in high school haven’t been the best of her life, a period in which she suffered from bullying. Now, she is in a small community where lesbians can feel like they are protected. Chattanooga is the place for her to explore herself, experience the thrills of sex as she moves from one girl to another. She is the hottest chick in the community, but then something goes terribly wrong. A series of suicides begins to happen in Chattanooga and they hit the lives of those closest to her. Are they just suicides or is someone behind them?
Gabriella Meghan is a great storyteller and she spins a yarn that will mesmerize readers, especially those who believe in gay rights. I enjoyed Layla’s emergence from her cocoon, and the way she develops to be the “conqueror of hearts.” The plot is well-designed to get the reader following the protagonist in her sexual escapades. For a debut novel, this one is a great success and it holds great promise for fans. There are some errors, but they are not strong enough to distract the reader or to have a negative impact on the reader’s enjoyment of the book. As Told By Us is a plot-driven story with great characters and I believe readers will find a lot to delight in.
