Awesome Adventures With Cadie the Rescue Dog by Natalie McCurry, illustrated by Chris Schwink, is a picture book about a German Shepherd's adventures and her new life with a forever home after being adopted from a high-kill shelter in Texas. Cadie is now enjoying herself as a beloved and energetic pet since her rescue and she shares her exploits as she goes for a walk, hikes, or travels to interesting places. We see how Cadie explores her whereabouts and meets all sorts of animals but most especially dogs, children, and dog owners while enjoying many adventures and some downtime with her wonderful human and furry pet family and friends.
Awesome Adventures With Cadie the Rescue Dog is a delightful story written from the perspective of Cadie the dog, which makes it easy for you to empathize and experience her fun escapades. This encourages the use of our imagination as we see the world through the loveable four-pawed storyteller's point of view. The simple and brightly colored illustrations and the engaging characters, scenarios, and images bring Cadie's adventures to life. The uncomplicated fonts and formatting also make it readable. Natalie McCurry's message tells us about the importance of realizing that rescue dogs can be affectionate, fun-loving, protective, and talented animals that appreciate and share reciprocal love. It is an excellent example of how an adopted animal such as Cadie can be full of joy and curiosity.
The most adorable part is seeing a sample of Cadie's artwork at the end of the story, which shows how this beloved dog can cooperate and exhibit the patience to become quite a wonderful artist with the help of her human mom. You can even purchase an original and frameable Cadie piece of art, whose proceeds partially go to the rescue group that found her forever home. Recommended as a read-aloud book for younger, developing, and older emerging readers and as reading material for the starting independent reader.
