Prolific author Tuula Pere cooks up another educative children’s picture book in Axel’s Baking Day: Axel and Ava. Axel loves Saturdays. On Saturday, he bakes fresh buns and bread with his mom. One Saturday, an emergency at his grandparents' home takes both parents away. Axel is disappointed; there will be no baking for him today. His parents prefer that he call his friend over and spend time with her, but Axel has other plans. He will bake by himself. As he gathers the ingredients and utensils, Axel soon gets into a sticky situation. All he needs is his best friend, Ava, to help him sort things out before Mom and Dad get home.
The Axel and Ava series is about friendship, such as friends who turn up for you and help you through your problems. The fifth book in this series follows Axel, a little boy who loves baking. Attempting to bake on his own is a fun, innovative, and exciting journey, emphasizing the importance of positive friendships. Parents can learn about creating a healthy environment to foster a child’s passion. Axel’s parents looked past the dough splattered all over the house and praised his baking. Furthermore, his mom was glad to teach him more before he could venture independently. The childlike, expressive illustrations by Nyamdorj Lkhaasuren complement the story. Tuula Pere’s narration is easy for early readers to grasp and the storyline is also easy to follow. This book is suitable for children aged 4 to 8.
