R.J. Tolson has created a marvelous little book sharing the basics of entrepreneurship with children. In Beginner Entrepreneurship for Kids: Activity Book, subtitled A Kid’s Dream Series: Book 1, Tolson shares everything a child needs to know before starting their own business. First, he explains the concepts, then he provides worksheets so the child can practice them. Leading the child step by step allows them to develop their business plan and then put it into action. Entrepreneurship is explained in simple terms that children will understand. The forms will enable the child to present their projects to adults and seek investors. The young person will have a complete business portfolio without knowing the ins and outs of programs like Excel. This is an excellent introduction to the wonderful world of entrepreneurship.

Even before a child can spell “entrepreneurship,” they can put its principles into practice by using information they will find in Beginner Entrepreneurship for Kids: Activity Book by R.J. Tolson. This simple guide will allow a young person to build a thriving business from humble beginnings such as dog walking, dog sitting, or a lemonade stand. Gone are the days when all a child had to do was ask their neighbor to buy their services. Now, due to competition, a child must be smarter. The same principles that one would learn at the Harvard School of Business are brought to a child’s level, allowing them to compete with others effectively. This book is hands-on, with practical instructions that lead a child to success. Buy this book for your child, and maybe they will become the next Famous Amos.

R.J. Tolson’s Beginner Entrepreneurship for Kids: Activity Book is visually appealing. The choice of orange and turquoise as the primary colors, in addition to the more traditional black and white, works well in terms of being clear and easy to read. Tolson is mindful of his audience in terms of layout: no clutter and a blend of visuals and text. The activities are a balance of fun tasks, such as a word search and quiz, working through scenarios, and finally applying what has been learned throughout the book to an actual small business that is suited to the reader’s age.
