Behind Her Smile: The Adventures of a Tall Girl from WVA and Her Life as a Stewardess is written by Beverly Golden Cuevas. Beverly’s younger years were pretty normal as she navigated through her life, trying to figure out where she fit in. She tried her hand at singing and playing instruments but quickly discovered that a career in music was not in her future. She made an attempt at writing, but that didn’t work out the way she had hoped either. Thanks to a very dear friend, Beverly became a flight attendant. In spite of a traumatic event, she loved her job and the amazing people she got to meet through the years.
Behind Her Smile is an interesting memoir that reinforces the idea of how important it is not to give up on living your best life no matter what the circumstances might be. I enjoyed reading about the life Beverly Golden Cuevas led as a stewardess and the friendships she maintained along the way. I enjoyed learning about the difference between the way stewardesses handled a flight years ago versus the way things are taken care of onboard a plane now. I find it inspiring that she kept her focus on the future even during the dark and difficult times. I recommend Behind Her Smile to anyone who enjoys an autobiography that outlines the life choices and the lifestyle of an interesting career path that is rarely discussed. I hope that Cuevas decides to write more books that will inspire others to follow their hearts and chase their dreams while they can.
