Beneath the Surface by Trey Everett tells the suspenseful story of Micah Day, a decorated scholar and tenured university professor. Micah is on the brink of a solution to the water shortage crisis after discovering a strange phenomenon occurring two hundred miles off the coast of Kodiak Island. What appears to be an underwater sinkhole could be a source of natural fresh water in the middle of a saltwater world. A system of natural jet streams pumping fresh water into the sea. Jason Cark of Cark Strategies Incorporated asks Micah to obtain a sample of the water in order to raise fifteen million dollars for the project. Micah puts together a team of people including his wife Sarah, Dr. Thomas Shepherd and his wife Marie, and Jackson Pond. With the use of a MegaYacht called The Tethys, the team dive the Epipelagic Zone of the Pacific Ocean to a depth of three hundred and six feet to obtain the sample. Judging by appearances, the team may have found more than what they bargained for.

Beneath the Surface is an exciting, fast-paced novel filled with action and intrigue. Author Trey Everett describes the scenes and events perfectly, including the yacht, equipment, and several strange underwater discoveries. The characters and their relationships are well defined and I especially enjoyed the love between Micah and Sarah as well as the banter between the team members on the boat. Told from various perspectives, the story flows smoothly from beginning to end and makes for an easy read with a consistent tone and suspenseful theme. All round, a fantastic story, well written and highly recommended for all adults.
