Each of us has our dreams and aspirations, but sometimes fate has something better and more meaningful in store for us. Bethlehem's First Christmas by AJ Willemse is one such story. Esther wanted nothing more than to travel the world and get away from the humdrum town of Bethlehem with her brother Daniel. However, because her parents owned the town inn, they wanted Esther to help run the business while Daniel prepared to explore the outside world by himself. Resigned to her fate, Esther prayed to God to allow her to travel. One day a mysterious stranger named Joseph came to their door, seeking help for his pregnant wife Mary who was about to give birth. Esther must take it upon herself to become the midwife during the birth of Jesus Christ.
AJ Willemse tells the riveting tale of the birth of Jesus Christ and a young woman who helped make it possible at the advent of the first Christmas. Bethlehem's First Christmas lives up to its name and follows the story of a young woman who finds her destiny in circumstances she could never have imagined. Willemse's narrative sheds light on the age-old adage that "God works in mysterious ways." While it was true that Esther didn't always get what she wished for, she became a part of something greater. The beautifully drawn illustrations bring the characters to life and make the tale enthralling to read. This is a children's picture book that even adults will find endearing.
