All Billy drank when he was a baby was his mother’s milk. He loved to be cradled, and he also slept a lot. It was his mother’s milk that filled his belly and soothed him to sleep. It was the same milk that made him feel better and gave him energy. When Billy cried because he was hurt or sad, it was Mommy's milk that comforted him. But Billy couldn't remain small forever. As he grew, there arose a need to feed him other foods that were appropriate to support bodily development at this stage. Foods like bananas, applesauce, pears, and grilled cheese sandwiches, but Mommy's milk was still his favorite. As Billy grew older, he found new things to do, like puzzles and playing with toys. Billy Says Bye-Bye to Breast Milk by Kim Winker is an interesting read that captured my attention from the start to the end. As a medic, I loved the themes covered, like the importance of breastfeeding and also weaning when the appropriate time comes. I believe such literature is a step in the right direction in eliminating myths and misconceptions that mothers face. For young readers, this work provides a variety of vocabulary words, while adults will appreciate the different developmental milestones for children and the joy of watching a child grow up. The easy-to-understand language used also makes this work accessible to all audiences. The illustrations help to capture young readers' imaginations and pass on the intended message effectively. This was a good read, and I look forward to more by this talented author.
