In Blind Eye, Kris Leith plunges the reader directly into the chaos, leaving them breathless and scrambling to keep up. From the first page, Leith establishes a foundation for an intense and tension-filled journey that only eases at the end. Emery, a vigilante, has made it his mission to eliminate dangerous predators from the streets of New Zealand. Unbeknownst to him, he has a supporter in the Auckland police force. Megan, a police psychologist and lead investigator, is under pressure to solve a series of murder cases that appear to be committed by a single perpetrator. Her search for answers leads her to Emery, drawing both deeper into a deadly game where the lines between hunter and hunted begin to blur. With danger closing in, they find themselves entangled in a web far more intricate and personal than they imagined.
Kris Leith creates a strong cast of characters, providing us with glimpses into their personalities and motivations, and setting the stage for the intense events that follow. The story explores the theme of justice versus vengeance. As the wave of violence from the perpetrator escalated, I grappled with complex feelings about Emery’s actions and whether he should be viewed as a hero or a villain. On one hand, he eliminates violent criminals before more innocent victims can die; on the other hand, the law is clear that justice should be served through due process. Nevertheless, Emery, as a hero, is an admirable character, even as he operates in the gray areas of morality. He is resolute, empathetic, fearless, and resourceful. Given the choice, I’d pick a hero like Emery every time. Fans of fast-paced action thrillers will certainly be captivated by Blind Eye, and I hope to meet Emery again in another thrilling case.
