Blue Solace (New Bonus Content 2017 Edition) by Angela Dawn Staten definitely has a lot of surprising moments that will delight fans of the genre. The concept of dead people rising and shadows and vampires hunting amongst them was a curious one for me. Then there is Raven, a woman who just died recently and whom both the most notorious of vampires and the shadows are pining to have. Lucas and Leon are doing all they can to protect Raven because, it seems, the future of their world could depend on her, especially at a time when the dead are rising and vampires and shadows are more hungry and determined to cause as much havoc as possible.
Blue Solace is well-paced, and it is engaging. The author begins the story with powerful descriptions of a vampire feeding and the reader is connected with the spirit of the story right off the bat. The cemetery becomes a very symbolic place in the vivid setting, captured in well-crafted descriptions. The use of short chapters and shifts in points of view between the different characters create interest in readers. It is interesting to notice the unusual combination of literary elements such as suspense, humor, and contrast. The characters come alive in this fast-paced story and readers will want to follow them. Angela Dawn Staten’s prose is excellent and she comes across as a great storyteller. Her writing reflects a rich and creative imagination, a work that will delight many readers.
