Boo has a large collection of shoes, and some of them are actually boots. Each shoe or boot has a special talent: flashing lights, splashing in rain puddles, even shoes on wheels to rollerblade around. The only thing about Boo’s shoes and boots is that none of them has laces. Boo refuses to deal with tying shoelaces. Actually, he doesn’t know how to do it. One day, his friend, Farah the fox, bought him a new pair of shoes with, you guessed it, laces. Boo wasn’t so sure, but Farah convinced him he could do it and she showed him how. After a few attempts, Boo could tie his own shoes and he felt rather proud of himself. Wouldn’t you?
Sybrina Durant’s picture book story, Boo's Shoes - A Rabbit And Fox Story - Learn To Tie Shoelaces, is a fun and educational story about shoes, boots, and those very troublesome shoelaces. The interactive story, told in rhyming verse, allows the young reader to follow Boo’s adventures with his different shoes and how he learns how to tie his own laces, after learning from Farah that his skill at tying shoelaces will help him do many other fun things, like tie the sails on a sailboat. With bright, colorful illustrations, this is an encouraging story to help young readers face their own obstacles and learn how to conquer things that might at first seem difficult, like tying shoelaces.
At the back of the book is an interactive activity demonstrating the way Boo learned to tie his shoes, with clear illustrations and instructions to help young readers follow along and learn to tie their own laces. There are different methods of tying shoelaces and the book directs young readers to a website that will demonstrate alternate methods, but the one illustrated in this book is very appropriate since our protagonist, Boo, is a bunny. You got it; this method is called 'the bunny ear' method.
