Braffis Spin by Eartha Duquay is a fantastic sci-fi adventure which tells the story of nineteen-year-old Spin Stands. From the desert world of Paland there is a feeling of renewed hope and freedom in the minds of those dwelling there. This is due to the latest technical inventions, the Wake-Ring and the Traysee. What they receive instead is exactly the opposite. As the population is lured away by the charismatic promises of Stepupard, Mah Risenite refuses to follow the empty promises which seem to be a little too good to be true. Spin visits Paland using her Wake-Ring and while she is gone, her father is kidnapped. She needs the help of the knight Mah to find him. Spin and Mah are in grave danger when Mah is betrayed and imprisoned. Those who managed to stay in Paland live in a virtual paradise called Spincountry which is under siege by Antarticwells who must be overcome by the knights. Thinking that Mah is lost, Spin is lured out of the safety of Spincountry and discovers the truth of who betrayed her and Mah in the beginning.
Eartha Duquay has created a detailed and exciting adventure which is certain to thrill the hardcore sci-fi enthusiast. The many twists and turns of the plot and the reactions of the characters guide the reader through the adventure of a young lady coming of age in a time of untold chaos. The development of the knight Mah is as integral to the story as that of Spin as the two of them battle conflicts that are both interior and exterior. This adventure shows how easily people are often led astray by charismatic leaders and how it takes simple, independent thinking individuals to expose the truth and bring about true freedom. Each turn of the page will reveal another exciting scene in this fantastic adventure that will linger on in the mind of the reader. Intense, relevant, and inspired writing abounds. Sci-fi aficionados will be in heaven or Spincountry the whole way through.
