Breaking Point: A Detective Jack Creed Novel, Volume 8 is a police procedural mystery novel written by C.T. Mitchell. Detective Jack Creed had a serial killer at large in the Cabarita Beach area of New South Wales. The killer had taken his first victim ten years before, and his most recent victim had been brutally attacked before being burned alive. Creed had O'Halleran breathing down his neck on this case as well, so not replacing Simpson, who was on leave due to health issues, was not on the cards. His choices for a replacement were marginal, to say the least. Detective Sergeant Boston-Wright was the one bright penny in the mix -- even if she was a woman. Murder inquiries were traditionally handled by men, but she was the daughter of Bruno Boston, after all. Boston had been Creed's mentor on style as well as police work. So Creed would give her a try. For her part, Joanne Boston-Wright was determined to succeed, seeing her appointment as an opportunity to finally do some real police work. There would be the extra scrutiny expected by any woman breaking into a man's field, but she knew she could get past it -- she was, after all, Bruno’s daughter.

C.T. Mitchell's Australian police procedural mystery, Breaking Point: A Detective Jack Creed Novel, is the eighth volume in this detective series, but don't let that stop you from reading this book as a standalone. I did, and I found myself instantly involved in the action, the characters, and the story. Creed and Boston-Wright are each complicated and strong characters who find the other daunting and not quite comprehensible. That doesn't hinder them from becoming a dynamic team that's well worth following in future volumes. I've been a fan of Australian police procedurals since I first discovered Arthur Upfield's half-Aboriginal Detective Inspector Napoleon Bonaparte some years ago, and I'm thrilled to have found Detective Jack Creed. Mitchell's plot is top-tier, and his story is taut, compelling, and suspenseful. Breaking Point: A Detective Jack Creed Novel, Volume 8 is most highly recommended.

Fantastic cover, best yet. Eye catching, just drew me in - made me want to pick it up and read it cover to cover in one sitting. Mitchell ramps up the pace with this one and takes the reader on a dark journey into the abyss. For me his best book to date. More of the same please Mr Mitchell

I am well familiar with CT Mitchell's works and this is by far his best. Excellent description keeps the reader with the investigators whether in the station or at the crime scene. Superb, interesting characters. Regardless of gender the reader is compelled to root for Boston-Wright, the sassy female neophyte on the force. The pacing creates a sense of urgency and the writing follows police procedures in good fashion. I expect to see Boston-Wright in many additional stories.

I found it to be a fast paced page turner. The characters were interesting and the story line had enough twists to keep me interested throughout. Detective Sargent Creed and newbie Detective Boston-Wright's relationship is complicated enough to be real. I look forward to seeing what comes their way next.

Breaking Point: A Detective Jack Creed Police Procedural Novel is a hilarious story told with a lot of enthusiasm by the renowned author C. T. Mitchell. The story is set in the Cabarita Beach in New South Wales.

The novel is full of surprises and a great sense of style. Detective Creed is faced with a great puzzle to solve a murder case. The author takes the reader through a breathtaking story as the detective tries to unearth the puzzle of the mysterious murder.

Does he succeed or does he fail? What challenges does Creed and his team face? Read through the novel to find out. The novel is full of stylistic devices that make it humorous and suspenseful.

I love the writing style...riveting and fast paced. When asked to review this book I had no idea that it would keep me up until 5 in the morning because it was just that good. I hated to put it down but I had to get some sleep so I picked it back up this morning and finished it. It was awesome. There were a few editing mistakes but not enough to take away from the enjoyment of the book. Having read hundreds of these types of mysteries, I kind of knew who did it but the author put doubts in your mind, so I wasn't completely sure until the last few pages. I love the way this author engages the reader and keeps you frantically turning the pages. I definitely recommend this author and plan to read everything I can get my hands on that he writes. Awesome job!!!

This is a twisty, intriguing plot. The background is clearly delineated. There are some great characters, and a nice turn of phrase. I enjoyed reading it.

Another great read from CT Mitchell.

In contrast to his short read series, Breaking Point gives you plenty of time to get to know the characters. Breaking Point introduces us to Jo Boston-Wright, and her journey within the police team trying to find a serial murderer in a sleepy seaside town in Australia.

With an ability to weave and layer different characters and story lines, Mitchell has an authentic style which keeps you reading! Breaking Point develops and provides teasers of the perpetrator, the personalities of the characters and where those relationships may go. A great twist at the end is not what you would expect! I look forward to seeing more from CT Mitchell.

Excellent story, lots of twists and turns. Fairly quick read. Love the versitility of Mitchell's writing. Keep up with the great mysteries.

CT Mitchell delivers another good Jack Creed story and introduces Jo Boston-Wright to his team. His force have to solve the case of a number of linked murders committed over the years with a number of red herrings thrown in. Makes for a high pressure case with it being ramped up to bring it all to a conclusion. Only fault was for the spelling of the main character midway through that went from Cred to Creeed. And possibly "he" or "she" could have been used more as opposed to "Creed" or "Boston-Wright". Minor details on what I rate as a first class murder mystery.

Interesting Mystery

I enjoyed reading Breaking Point by C.T. Mitchell. The story was told from the perspective of two detectives - Jack Creed, a 50-year-old trying to prove himself and a woman, Jo Boston-Wright, who is a first-time detective in a man’s world. Boston-Wright was a relatable character and some of the other characters grew on me during the story. Jack Creed is a complex character and his family storyline was intriguing.

The story is more about the detectives rather than on the murderer or victims, even though we see glimpses into the lives of the victims via the detectives reading the case files or interviewing family members/friends. The last three chapters had my heart racing and I was pleasantly surprised at the ending.

I will definitely try other books by C.T. Mitchell

A good murder mystery, and I appreciated a lot of the careful aspects. The murders themselves were gruesome, but the author didn't make me ill with details.

To me this book was a comfortable length, but I do feel the murders could have been solved in less time than was reported without changing the length of the book. Periodically it would be mentioned that two weeks had passed, obviously nothing new had been discovered, but it could have as easily been reported as a day or two. The time frame took some of the drama and pacing out of it for me.

I especially liked the two female officers friendship, a good professional working relationship, not a couple of cats with claws out! As a woman I appreciated that. Of course the men are mostly jerks most of the time, but they had some good moments too.

This book could stand another pass at editing, there are a few typos, names got mixed up, nothing major. I agree with another reviewer that Bishop-Wright's name is mentioned too many times. Just refer to her using personal pronouns, call her BW, or Jo.

I love all of CT's books - read them all, and this is the best one yet! Love Jack, and all the descriptions. This is a fast paced book that you won't want to put down or end. Keep up the great work - looking forward to reading more about Jack!

I really enjoyed this book. Finished it in one day. Only one problem, would love it on my kindle app, not just in the inkitt format. But that said, enjoyed the dialogues and the problems between the main characters with the viewpoint from the female detective seeming to be caught in another "old boys set-up with no females allowed". But she finds that she is wrong with this thinking and helps to solve a series of brutal murders. I did work out who the murderer was before the end of the story, but still found it to be a really good read and thoroughly entertaining. Looking forward to reading the other books in the series. If you like hard-headed police stories with well-drawn characters who sometimes bend the rules to find the crims, then this is the book for you.

Murder mystery at its finest

This is my first book by Mitchell. The characters were well developed, plot well thought out. The twists and turns during this read was awesome. I would have given 5 stars on everything, however, I did find several grammar issues. This was a quick weekend read, and I hope to find more books like this one from the author.

olimpiatorris97

This is perhaps the first book I’ve read by CT Mitchell, and it was a delightful experience. The author has a way with words and the suspense in this story will force you to go on reading and unveiling the plot.
This is also my first murder-mystery book, and I enjoyed the many twists and turns throughout the story. Character development is spot on, and I love the duo formed by Jack and Jo and how they manage to solve the case.
I did find a few minor typos and grammatical errors, and the author could have used more pronouns instead of using the names of the detectives so many times. But besides these minor issues, this is a great novel and I highly recommend it to those who love reading mysteries.

a great story that kept me going til the end!
This is the first book that I have read by this author - and it will NOT be the last! I found the story to have all the ingredients for me to love: smooth flowing story line, very human characters with all their charm and foibles, a believable atmosphere/world, a writing style that draws you in, and a story that just takes you away - you get lost in it! :)

The characters are real people... Creed is at times crochety but he is so into his work - solving murders and putting the bad guy away! Now, he is also mentoring Boston-Wright as her father had mentored him. However, she sometimes just doesn't seem to listen! :) She feels the same about him as well! Their chemistry adds to the story as well. (It is hard for a gal to break into the all-boys' club of homicide.)

As a mystery, the story takes us through twists and turns - even until the very end! We follow the leads as they are discovered by the detectives... It makes the story so much more fun when you are literally along for the ride!

Do read this book! If you love the old style detective stories, you will love this!

A wonderful first time read of C T Mitchell, it won't be the last. I love stories that keep my interest from the very first page. This novel has characters that the reader can relate to, not to mention the twist and turns of the case. C T Mitchell is up there with the best.

Deanna Stevens

Very good plot. Enjoyed the mystery & how long it took me to figure out the murderer! I had a hard time putting it down, it certainly kept me in the story..

Very entertaining whodunit!
My first Jack Creed story, and certainly not my last. C.T. Mitchell's characters are well developed and very believable. The story of a possible serial killer in Australia has an excellent hook and once it is set, putting this book down is a very hard thing to do.

If you are looking for a whodunit that will keep you guessing until the end, give Breaking Point a read.

Note, the Inkitt delivery method makes it difficult to read . I did discover the iOS app after reading this book so I'll give that a shot on the next book.

Author CT Mitchell , my first book of his and one I really liked very much .
Not only can he write a truly copper detective story in the true way they do things ! It is spot on and from Jack Creed to his counter underling Jo with working through a very hard case of a serial killer .
Mister Mitchell never leaves out an exceptional area or the process and twist and turns in his stories ! Details are right on the mark . As his writing takes you into a new view of police work . Refreshing , interesting and was a very intriguing book ! I hope to read more of his books .
This book will not bog you down and you will love reading it !
