Broken by Shannon Hrimnak is a romance-suspense thriller and the fifth book in the Resurrected Heart series. It follows Katelyn, a mother and successful businesswoman, who is struggling to find love after leaving her fiancé at the altar. Meanwhile, Ryker 'Shadow' Kauffman, a retired Navy SEAL haunted by a tragic mission, has transitioned to a quieter life in security. When a dangerous stalker targets Katelyn, Ryker is drawn into her world, and sparks fly as they navigate a path fraught with danger, passion, and emotional healing. Hrimnak has a talent for creating emotionally complex protagonists, as both Katelyn and Ryker wrestle with past trauma in contrasting ways, yet they learn from one another on a highly relatable journey. Hrimnak's ability to blend heart-pounding suspense with heartfelt romance keeps readers on edge while rooting for the characters.

I was particularly impressed by the impeccable pacing and tension in the dialogue, which allows moments of suspense to build naturally while giving space for emotional reflection at the right moments. This makes the romance feel even more organic as it develops in such a timely, believable way. The thriller elements are all the more gripping because they directly influence the characters being driven toward one another. The vivid portrayal of Ryker's internal struggles and Katelyn's vulnerability allows readers to explore themes of trust, healing, and emotional resilience, and I found myself completely engrossed in the characters' fears, hopes, and growing attraction as if they were my own. Overall, I enthusiastically recommend Broken by Shannon Hrimnak to readers who are looking for a story that will keep them on the edge of their seats while also tugging at their heartstrings.

Broken: Resurrected Heart Series is a suspenseful love story by Shannon Hrimnak. Katelyn, a divorced single mother with a seven-year-old daughter, owned a successful floral business. Katelyn found solace each day on a park bench with an ocean view. Katelyn often contemplated how her life might change if she had someone to share it with. Ryker “Shadow” Kauffman, a former Navy SEAL, had lost his entire team. When Ryker learned about a fellow SEAL who started his own security company, Knight Security, he applied for a position. Ryker sought a less demanding job, believing that his job at Knight Security would be relatively calm. Every morning, Ryker noticed Katelyn sitting on the bench and felt drawn to her. When Ryker stopped by Katelyn’s floral shop, there was an instant spark between them.

I was captivated from the very first page and found myself racing through the chapters. The story had loads of action, keeping me in constant suspense about what might happen. I sat on the edge of my seat, trying to guess what twist would come next, right up until the conclusion. The characters came across as authentic, and the members of Knight Security felt like a close-knit family. The chemistry between Ryker and Katelyn was undeniable, and Katelyn truly blossomed throughout the story. I was eager to discover the developments in their relationship. The writing was exquisite, with alternating chapters focused on Katelyn and Ryker. The tale concluded with a cliffhanger, leaving me impatient to see what unfolds in the sequel.

A loving mother to her daughter and a successful business owner with a thriving floral shop, Katelyn appears to have crafted a life full of meaning. Yet beneath the surface, she struggles with a profound sense of incompletion as she searches for true love. She meets Ryker “Shadow” Kauffman, a retired Navy SEAL. Their worlds intersect when Katelyn is targeted by a dangerous stalker, a threat that pulls Ryker into her life as her protector.

Katelyn’s longing to rediscover herself beyond her roles as a mother and businesswoman intersects with Ryker’s journey away from a life defined by shadows. Shannon Hrimnak does a commendable job of crafting Katelyn's and Ryker’s perspectives, exploring their inner conflicts and motivations. The prose is descriptive and straightforward, immersing the reader in the characters’ emotions without overindulging in flowery language. Broken is for anyone who enjoys stories featuring protective, stoic protagonists and resilient, independent heroines navigating second-chance love or healing from past heartbreaks.
