Dan Wafford’s Business As Usual redefines workplace mismanagement. If you think your managers lack vision and administrative competence, the bosses at The Fabulous Shinoleum Car Wax Company will make you appreciate your own leadership. When George Washington Lincoln—Vice President of Sales, Marketing, and Employee Morale—learns that the U.S. Army is interested in an exclusive contract with the company, he assigns Darren Hedleitz, a junior executive, to create a winning sales pitch. To assist Darren, the VP appoints Paula Hannah, whom he describes as a "young sales and marketing genius." In reality, Paula is a botanist. While they were concerned about their inexperience, soon they realized that the lack of expertise wasn’t the issue; the ‘product’ was. How do you pitch a product that fails at its only purpose?

Business As Usual takes every absurdity of the corporate world, accentuates it, and delivers it in a riotous slapstick comedy. From naming the characters creatively to drafting ridiculous scenarios, Dan Wafford has injected non-stop, laugh-out-loud moments into every aspect of the book. While some sentences and word choices were slightly more complex than an average reader may prefer, this didn't detract from my overall enjoyment of the book. As a corporate woman myself, I thoroughly enjoyed many relatable moments, like arguments to support work from home, "unfair" dismissal, illogical yet confidently delivered opinions, useless remarks by sycophants, etc. If you’re a toxic workplace survivor or love laughing at corporate nonsense, this book is for you.
