Castoffs of the Gods is yet another installment of the Idol Maker series by Sonja Dewing. John Holbrook's search for his great-uncle and explorer Benedict Spafford's remains in the Amazon leads to his disappearance, prompting his close friend and fellow adventurer Leslie Kicklighter to launch a rescue mission with sleuth detective AJ Bluehorse and their former guide Miguel. As they embark on their arduous journey, however, the little group is joined by some unexpected members in Alex Quispe, a mysterious professor, and his underling, alongside John's wife Anya and a journalist from Cincinnati named Dan Draper. Meanwhile, AJ is still getting accustomed to the powers she received from the Inca god Viracocha. Navigating caimans, snakes, and the elements, the crew make their way to the ancient Inca city while Viracocha's heir plots for world domination.
If you're a fan of Indiana Jones-style action-adventure stories, you'll have a blast reading Castoffs of the Gods. Author Sonja Dewing dugs into ancient Incan mythology to weave a captivating tale filled to the brim with mystery and lore. The plot moves at a brisk pace, with twists and turns galore to keep you engrossed throughout the pages. The characters have strong personalities and distinct motives that create plenty of conflict and drama. I particularly enjoyed Leslie and AJ's dynamic. There's something about stories of undertaking dangerous quests in the wilderness that appeals to the adventurous spirit in humans. The Idol Maker series quenches that thirst and more. I had a wonderful experience with it and recommend it to fans of fantasy and adventure.
