Cooking in Fern Valley: Another Collection of Short Stories and Recipes by Aileen Stewart is a wonderful collection of stories with fun farm animals that also includes some yummy recipes. Each of the 12 stories involving wonderful characters set in and around Curlytail Farm in Fern Valley includes a recipe for a food mentioned in the story. How clever is that? The recipes include cheesy potato soup, homemade granola, cinnamon and sugar cookies, applesauce cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, brownies, and stained glass candy. This is a fantastic collection of stories for middle-grade readers with subjects like math, surprise parties, Valentine's Day, and outings in chapters titled The Secret, The Dilemma, The Choice, The Guest, The Thief, The Valentine, The Outing, The Tickets, The Key, The Disaster, The Ideas, and The Friend.

Meet adorable characters like a pig named Kimmy Curlytail, Nathan the goat, a chicken named Edward Cornstalk and many more animals in Cooking in Fern Valley: Another Collection of Short Stories and Recipes by Aileen Stewart. This book made me giggle and it also made me hungry. I plan to try out the many fabulous recipes and can only hope to cook as well as Ma Curlytail, Roberta, Mildred, and Mrs. Cornstalk. Librarians and teachers will love Cooking in Fern Valley because of the short stories and beautiful illustrations. Cooking in Fern Valley by Aileen Stewart is a fresh new idea to promote child literacy and kids will love the colorful characters.
