Crazy Cow of the Appalachians: Based on a True Story by Nancy Fussell Perryman is an entertaining family saga where Grandpaw at ninety years of age wants to get rid of all his livestock on his farm. There is always something happening on the farm and Grandmaw is worried, thinking that he will be bored after that and stop living his life with all his previous enthusiasm. Things change when one day Orphie jumps out of the cattle wagon. Away from the cattle herd, Orphie's behavior changes. Based on a true story, this tale has many dimensions to it and teaches life lessons to readers.
The plot is captivating with its characters and twists and turns that will keep readers glued to the book till the very end. The black and white sketches complement the author's thoughts and help readers comprehend the story very well. They give more clarity to the scenes. It's the type of story that will appeal to readers of all ages with its humor, subtle spiritual undertones, messages, and lessons. The author is descriptive in her expressions, making the imagery wonderful and rich. The book is a must-read for all those who love animals. All the characters are sketched well and they leave a mark on the minds of readers. When a story is based on facts and truth, it tends to leave an impression on readers, just like this story of a crazy cow, and the family and friends in the book.
