DayDreamer by Michael D Chapman should be on everyone’s shelf, as a friend who is there to help in a crisis. Mental health has been hidden behind closed doors and spoken about in hushed tones. It is even considered a scandal if you know someone who has mental health issues or are that person. The story opens with Mark Thompson, who loses himself in an imaginary world as he works on the production line of a company that manufactures pills. He realizes that he needs help when a colleague tries to commit suicide. What comes to light is that everyone has a different problem: a busy mind, insomnia, and control issues. These are some of the problems that are discussed. When you keep escaping into a fantasy world as a way of coping with society, this makes you realize that you are not mad, just frustrated that you don’t meet society's standards, but in fact you do in your own way and right.
In DayDreamer by Michael D Chapman, Mark leads a group of people in the beginning. They meet during working hours and just talk. He discovers that he is not alone, with a mind that is too busy, and his way of coping is to go into another world where he is always the hero. The story is about ordinary everyday people who fight to stay noticed and alive in a world that shuns anyone who is struggling with mental health as if it is a contagious disease. This book will have you laughing and crying. I highly recommend that everyone read it, as it will make you realize that there is someone in your family who may need you just to be there for them and just to listen and not try to fix them. An insightful book that has made me realize that you can turn your problem into an asset instead of a liability. Thank you, Michael, for taking the time and effort to write a book about mental health in such a beautiful and meaningful way. This is a book that will be read over and over again.
