Author Biography

Inspired by ants at a picnic with my young children, my son insisted that ant lions (insects that trap and eat ants) be invited to our next picnic. Interactive learning with my children was my passion when the kids were young. As an empty nester, I have combined painting with my former passion!

Doodlebug’s ABC Adventure is a children’s educational picture book written and illustrated by Kathi Snow Smith. Children will learn the alphabet with an ant lion, well known as a Doodlebug. The Doodlebug prances around a special picnic blanket with squares containing things that start with letters from the alphabet. The Doodlebug also raps and rhymes. Not only will children learn about animals, plants, vegetables, musical instruments, and many more things, but Doodlebug will also teach them his secret dance moves. So, get a copy of this book and join Doodlebug on this alphabetical picnic.

The first stage of learning to write is knowing the alphabet. There are many ways to teach children the alphabet, including using fun words to represent the letters. Children will easily remember the sounds and know where to place the letters when spelling a word. I loved Doodlebug’s ABC Adventure because Kathi Snow Smith created whole sentences with words that begin with each letter. Whether it is an elephant holding an egg or a pretty and plump pumpkin, this book has more than one word to represent a letter, and I liked this concept. I also loved the colorful illustrations because they were beautiful and showcased the Doodlebug's great dancing moves. The squares representing a letter and image had different bright colors that made the book look lively. It is magical watching children develop their writing and reading skills. Therefore, I highly recommend parents and caregivers read this book with their children and have fun teaching them their ABCs.
