Double Scoop of Murder by Lena Gregory is the third book in the Coffee and Cream Café Mystery series. Dani has found fulfillment in running the malt shop left to her by her uncle and offers an assortment of treats that customers love. She finally feels as if everything is coming together. But after a local billionaire is found dead, his fortune shakes things up in town. The only way to obtain his wealth is through a treasure hunt that sends the town into a frenzy. Even Dani and her friends decide to take part. The treasure hunt is filled with exciting clues to decipher but when the group finds their way to the treasure, they make a startling discovery and it’s not wealth. A dead body causes chaos and, to make matters worse, someone pins the murder on Dani by placing her at the scene of the crime. To clear her name, Dani must once again play the part of a sleuth and find the truth, even if it puts a killer in her path.

Lena Gregory incorporates Karma as a consistent theme throughout as Dani regularly thinks about the role it has in her life. Various characters surround her, such as Eli and Gwen who help her at the malt shop, providing the story with humor and heart. The writing style perfectly captures Dani’s perspective by making the most of the dialogue and maintaining a casual tone. Dani is opinionated and spunky with a sense of humor that maintains the lightheartedness of the story. This makes her instantly likable. Love is a complicated component of the mystery with Dani’s two potential love interests muddling the line between romance and friendship. One of these ties directly into the mystery with the charming detective constantly finding his way into her life as Dani investigates. These complicated dynamics balance the other areas of the plot with some fun drama pairing well with the treasure hunt and murder. The inclusion of tasty treats throughout will leave you wanting ice cream after reading. Double Scoop of Murder is perfect as a quick read offering a fast-paced mystery full of humor, charm, a treasure hunt, murder, and ice cream.
