The children's story "Eartha Gets Well" by Kristi Falk and Dr. Daniel Falk is woven around a little girl named Eartha whose name signifies a generalization to represent kids all over the Earth. In an age where the health and well-being of kids has become a top concern and one of the major challenges in the lives of parents, this story can also function as an instruction manual for them. The writers discuss three issues within the story. The first deals with Earth's derision of vegetables, despite the fact that they are crucial for her healthy growth. The issue is addressed with a bit of the supernatural, but not at all unbelievable in the creative imagination of a child. The next section deals with the need for exercise in a healthy life. Deviating from the previous structure, the writers make Eartha's puppy, Cooper, the protagonist here. It is a sure way of kindling the interest of a child. Cooper's sickness is due to the lack of exercise and the problem is solved in a very practical way. The final section of the story deals with a much wider environmental issue. The writers portray environmental pollution and the adverse impact of it on vegetation, through the eyes of Eartha.

The capacity of the writers to address the creative imagination of children through these stories is commendable. The book maintains a conversational narrative style and the writing is extremely readable in the eyes of a child. If the colorful illustrations are not mentioned, it would be a severe lapse in the review. They are clear, focused and didactic. Any child exposed to this book will quickly add Eartha and Cooper to their world of friends.
