Easy Does It is book one of the Haurenthian Chronicles, a young adult fantasy/science fiction series written by Lisa Landtroop. Sara and Brandon have been best friends since they were little kids. They’re both in college now. Brandon’s a rich kid and never had to work very hard for anything, unlike Sara who’s driven and a bit ambitious. Brandon’s somewhat lackadaisical attitude to life changes pretty drastically when he becomes a lab partner with Leo in their physics class. Leo seems to know everything about science, quantum physics and just about anything else. Suddenly Brandon is enjoying studying science, and he even takes part in a science fair. Sara and Brandon are having their usual pre-class early morning cup of coffee, when Brandon receives a special message from Leo. In it, Leo says that it’s imperative that Brandon meet him immediately at the library in the cookbooks section and to be sure to bring Sara along.

Lisa Landtroop’s young adult fantasy/science fiction novel, Easy Does It, is entertaining and exciting. Leo is from another planet, and his star-hopper is disguised as a 1970s love van, complete with orange shag carpeting. Leo, Brandon and Sara are great characters to pal around with. They’re irreverent and funny, but they also become intrepid space explorers who answer Leo’s call. After all, the future of planet Earth is in their hands. Landtroop’s writing is breezy and fast-paced, and I quickly got involved in this deliciously different science fiction tale. I enjoyed watching the verbal sparring of the three friends as they explore alien planets and fight the evil Moogay invaders. I’m looking forward to the next book in The Haurenthian Chronicles. Easy Does It is a lot of fun, and it’s highly recommended.

Easy Does It Book One: The Haurenthian Chronicles is about lifelong best friends, Sara and Brandon, going on an inter-galactic journey with Brandon's new science partner and buddy, Leo. Sara and Brandon come from different worlds as she is super hardworking for everything she has and Brandon just skates through life, never working hard at something. It starts with Sara encountering a beautiful creature with blond hair, green fur, and purple eyes blinking at her through the door. Both Sara and Brandon find themselves in a strange new world, a world that has seven moons with weird creatures that seem to want to destroy planet Earth. All three must try to stop these creatures and their evil intent. What ensues is a fast paced fight to save the world with many secrets revealed along the way.

Author Lisa Landtroop writes her tale with utter imagination and creativity that make the story come alive. Her dialogue between the three characters is filled with realism and humor as Sara, Brandon, and Leo banter and bicker their way through many problems and adventures. As an avid fan of young adult books, I really enjoyed this book and the characters who, over time, develop a bond as they fight creatures from another planet. Each character is imbued with his/her own strong personality and identity. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves science fiction, space travel, space creatures, and inter-galactic adventures that span many planets.

Lisa Landtroop's first SF novel is an absolute delight. A well paced adventure, it opens up your imagination to just how fascinating aliens can be. The 70's era vibes accentuate the trio's quest to save Earth with fun lingo and scene settings. I wait in hurried anticipation for the second book in the trilogy.
