Samantha Henthorn has covered a lot of ground in the third book of the Curmudgeon Avenue series, Edna and Genevieve Escape From Curmudgeon Avenue. Edna, who did not appear a lot in the second book, has made an impressive comeback in the third part of the series. In the company of her beloved Genevieve Dubois, Edna is smiling more and, funnily enough, farting even more. Her dream of settling in France has finally come true. However, she cannot ignore Genevieve's reluctance to explore the country. Unbeknownst to Edna, Genevieve cannot risk being recognized due to a dark secret of her own. Meanwhile, life in Curmudgeon Avenue is as ludicrous as ever. There are two heavily pregnant women in Whitefield, and both are linked to Ricky. To add to the list of issues in Curmudgeon Avenue, Matteo Dubois, the adopted son of Genevieve Dubois, is opening a shop that is making Mrs. Ali, the owner of "the most popular shop in Whitefield" quite restless.

The Curmudgeon Avenue series always brings a smile to my face. And, to my delight, Edna and Genevieve Escape From Curmudgeon Avenue by Samantha Henthorn is no exception. The idiocy of the characters is intact. Harold's smell has taken a backseat in the narration; instead, Edna's winds have come into focus. Even at the risk of sounding a bit immature, I must admit her farts were a source of my laughter in many instances: "She made it to the breakfast table, put her handbag on the table, and broke wind loudly as she sat...." Harold is "saving" and "helping" Edith more, which adds to the hilarity of the plot. Besides the fascinating "mad as a hatter" group of characters, the story unravels some major secrets of Genevieve's life. Furthermore, there are more twists for Curmudgeon Avenue readers. I would recommend this marvelous lighthearted comedy to readers who enjoy humorous fiction packed with "nincompoops."
