Meet Henry Jones who loved reading and playing ball like any typical third grader in the storybook Elevator Jones Meets the Wright Brothers (Kitty Hawk Hijinks): Elevator Jones: Volume 2 by Dan Soderberg and Greyson Soderberg. Henry lived with his family on the 17th floor of the Excelsior Hotel. His parents worked in the hotel and Henry pretended that he was living in a medieval castle with a fire-breathing dragon and a crocodile-infested moat. Henry's favorite place in the hotel was a rickety old elevator and his favorite person was Horatio, the 70-year-old elevator operator. In this book, Henry, his friend Tommy, and Horatio go back in time to the era of the Wright Brothers and discover how they changed the concept of air travel for ever.

It is a wonderful story and it is fun reading about the boys reaching Kitty Hawk and meeting Wilbur and Orville Wright. The illustrations are charming and lively and they give a good pace to the story. The twist in the plot makes it interesting and exciting for young readers. It is a good way to introduce children to the Wright Brothers who successfully flew the first airplane. The knitting of science and a bit of history into the story of Henry Jones, Tommy, and Horatio has been done deftly and seamlessly. I hope there are more stories in this series and I am sure, like me, readers are waiting for the next volume to read more about the adventures of Henry Jones.
