The Fox and the Garbage War by Tuula Pere will teach children about critical thinking and the dangers of ambition. In this story, Francis the Fox is disappointed after his campaign to become mayor fails. However, he decides not to give up and creates a new strategy to achieve fame and money. He enters a prestigious university and meets Linda Lupo. Together, they develop a project. The plan is to find a way to transform waste into fine dust for fertilizing the fields. Thanks to this, they attract investors and create the HypeX Research Center, making everyone happy with the idea of progress and well-being. However, the technology is not as effective as it is publicized. Francis does not want to admit what is happening and has to resort to increasingly elaborate lies. But something is inevitable, and the truth will be discovered.

The Fox and the Garbage War teaches children not to be influenced by misinformation. I loved the complexity of the story because it addresses real conflicts that occur in society. Additionally, the illustrations by Andrea Alemanno feature bright colors and expressive characters, making reading more captivating. Tuula Pere presents the topic in a way that is accessible to children with an interesting plot. She humorously explains how influential people can distort facts and how far ambition can go. That's why, even when the evidence of lies becomes obvious, and the garbage problem grows, many people continue to support Francis. Even so, there is a small group that does question, investigate, and take action. In this way, young readers will learn the importance of thorough research and making informed decisions.
