As a teen, writing became my passion, and like most aspiring writers, my work was terrible, immature, cliched drivel. I enlisted in the Army, attended college for my creative writing degree, became a paramedic for twenty years (one of the few at the time with a degree), then switched careers into IT. Crazy, huh? Throughout my life, I've traveled far and pushed myself hard, striving to try almost anything at least once (except skydiving unless the plane is on fire).

The title alone, Fairytale Apocalypse - A Romance of Apocalyptic Proportions: Epic Romantic Fantasy (The Verge Book 1), intrigued me to read this fantasy novel by Jacqueline Patricks. Twin sisters, Tessa and Lauren, are not as similar to each other as people think twins are. One of them is rather cautious and mature, while the other simply does what she likes. It all turns into a bit more than just the twins' everyday bickering when, on their 16th birthday, they are drawn into a world of fae. The world of fae is in trouble, and even though Lauren willingly came into that world (Tessa not so much), and agreed to become the wife of a lord, as a goddess had told her she should, to heal the Verge, it all goes wrong when Tessa crashes the wedding and is cut by the lord. Then everything turns into chaos when the world of mortals and the world of fae suddenly are not that separate anymore.

Fairytale Apocalypse by Jacqueline Patricks is not just a rather interesting fantasy book; it's also a story that makes you laugh quite often because the characters are so very entertaining. The only gripe I have with this book (and many other books these days) is that it is part of a series and hence rather short in my opinion. I prefer to have one huge volume instead of various parts. Then you know that you have a long time with the characters, you get really attached to them, and you know that no other book will catch your attention for a while. Yet with this book, it was all over too soon - but I guess it's a good sign if you wish a book was longer. The idea behind the book definitely had me hooked, and the characters were very interesting (also the idea of weapons that are bound to people).
