When K.C. Wilder introduces us to Eve Wolcott, you just know it’s all going to go wrong. Mostly because everything she seems to have is nothing at all: her husband is handsome, rich, and successful, her homes are stately, and her sons are bright. With nothing at all for herself, it’s no wonder it all goes sideways. Fifty Ways to Leave Your Husband starts as Eve prepares to embark on her annual girls’ weekend. Her best friend bails and she finds evidence that her husband is just like his philandering brothers. But instead of crawling into a Xanax-induced haze, Eve pulls on her big girl panties and decides to continue on her own. But before she even gets there, a tube of cheap pink lipstick turns her entire world upside down.
While it would be simple and a little justified to chalk Eve up to a pampered soccer mom, she is actually a fairly sympathetic woman and K.C. Wilder makes sure that comes through. Eve seems to see the error of allowing other people’s lives and expectations to dictate her own life, from allowing her boys to go to boarding school against her better judgment to letting her law career go. But when she meets the undeniably sexy Finn, she remembers what it was like to live and love again. With the support of her potty-mouth pal Tamara, and a little nudge from Finn, Eve faces her demons and her demonic mommy-in-law and gets the life she loves, but never knew she wanted. Although the book is not about Fifty Ways To Leave Your Husband, it should be called Fifty Ways To Take Back Your Life. This was a fantastic and hilarious read.
