Author James Robinson, Jr. has written a humorous but extremely thoughtful book about life and living that no one should skip. "Fighting the Effects of Gravity" is indeed a bittersweet journey into middle life and from there on to the realities of old age and eternity. Author Robinson writes delightfully amusing chapters on aging, the sagging body and it's aches and pains, what happens to the sex drive of one's youth, the need for bi-focal glasses, and one's tendency towards forgetfulness. But the author also deals extensively with death and dying and reminds the reader that "mid-life is a wake-up call, a post-it note from God telling you to get your life in order." This is not a book about making the reader feel young and wonderful by doing exercises or eating a certain way; it is a book about dealing with aging itself, in a positive but realistic way. The reader is advised to live their life in their own way, discarding old hurts and live each day as a wonderful gift. As the author writes on page 159, "Reclaim your soul. Confront your worst moments and give your unclaimed emotional duffels and knapsacks the old heave-ho."
"Fighting the Effects of Gravity" is a well-written book that just cannot be set aside or put down. Its references on how to live life will be found absorbing and practical by readers of all ages, especially those of advancing years. Author James Robinson, Jr. writes with humor and honesty that will leave the reader laughing but also engaged by each word of this well-written text. "Fighting the Effects of Gravity" is an Indie Excellence Award Finalist, an honor that's definitely deserved.
