Fleur de Lis: The Gents #3 is a work of fiction in the historical romance and interpersonal drama subgenres. It is suitable for the general reading audience and was penned by Sarah M. Eden. In this installment, we find ourselves following the events of a couple who are reunited in England after many years apart. Henri Fortier once declared his love for the charming Nicolette Beaulieu, but Nicolette’s secret revolutionary life holds her back from romantic pursuits. When Henri and Nicolette meet again as she embarks on her latest mission, sparks begin to fly anew, but the ever-present threat of danger may once again prove fatal to their burgeoning passion.
Sarah M. Eden writes with the skill of an author who knows her audience, creating this multi-layered work that will appeal to espionage, drama, and suspense fans just as much as historical romance lovers. The revolutionary era and the tensions between England and France provide a fascinating backdrop to the action, lacing the atmosphere with ill-fated romance and the sense that disaster lurks in every shadow. I enjoyed the fact that this was a pair with a complex history, and the series-based setting of The Gents and their playful attitude works well as a means of bringing them back together and then keeping them in one another’s company. Fans of the likes of Bridgerton will enjoy the witty interplay and Nicolette’s feisty independence too. I would certainly recommend Fleur de Lis for fans of clean romances with plenty of intrigue and thrills.
