In Freddie The Fly: Seeing Through Another Lens by Kim Delude, Freddie becomes upset because his best friend decides to work on a project with someone else. One of his classmates smacks him, and another gets angry. Freddie thinks their behavior is not his fault. He shows off a cut on his leg that he thinks is cool until the lunch lady tells him to see Nurse Mantis. The nurse discusses the day's problems with Freddie, then tells him he might need glasses. How can Nurse Mantis help Freddie with the behavior he has faced throughout the day? What kind of glasses will help Freddie with his problems?

Freddie The Fly by Kim Delude concerns Freddie and his lack of understanding of the feelings of others. The friends, classmates, and adults in Freddie’s life are easy for children to relate to as they read about Freddie’s learning experience. The illustrations by Brian Martin are beautiful pictures that readers can follow, providing visual cues to the reactions others have to rude and disrespectful behavior. I loved the message about seeing things from more than one point of view. That will help children learn to be more respectful, sympathetic, empathetic, and understanding of others. I recommend this book to young children at an understanding age and hope that Delude and Martin get together for more stories that teach children valuable lessons.
