Future Tense: Tales of Future Apocalyptic Vision is a compilation of short stories by the talented Michaelbrent Collings. The short stories in this book fall under different genres, but they all have some elements from the supernatural and horror genre. Ten unique stories await the reader, and the author has also included an afterword to give the reader insight into how he thought up each story. Each story has a unique setting and theme; for instance, one has an artificial intelligence governing humanity in a utopian-like world, and another where a couple of friends meet up in the countryside to reminisce about the good old days in a cabin. The stories are in different settings and have different themes, but they have one thing in common, and that is an element of horror. As you read these excellent short stories, you’ll be entertained, thrilled, terrified and you may just find yourself looking over your shoulder from time to time…
If I had to pick one word to describe Future Tense: Tales of Apocalyptic Vision, it would have to be “immaculate” because it exceeded all my previous expectations of what a good book should be. With a sentence or two, Michaelbrent Collings could make me happy, sad, laugh, thrilled, or terrified, and with a paragraph, he could transport me to an entirely different world. This was new for me, as although authors have always been able to move me with their words, it was as if Michaelbrent had linked my brain to his as his thoughts were conveyed beautifully. The plots of each story were just phenomenal, and they had some amazing twists and surprises.
I also loved how the author could turn the whole story upside down in a few words and how he could create truly suspenseful scenes. The author has redefined my understanding of what a suspenseful scene should be. Besides building up nerve-racking suspense, the author was adept at employing some hilarious jokes and scenes that could crack me up with ease. Having to pick a personal favorite is impossible as they’re just so incredible, and the author has my thanks for having written such amazing stories. I'd like to recommend this book to readers that enjoy well-written short stories and plots that contain unique twists. This book is also a must-read for anyone that loves the horror genre or books that have suspense, as well as readers of thrillers.
