If your child is about to undergo ear tube surgery, this book will help them understand all there is to know. They will learn about the different parts of the ear, what each one does, and how ear infections affect them. They'll learn what ear tube surgery is, how to recover from it, and how their ears can affect their overall well-being. This is a must-have book to help children learn to look after their own health and recognize the signs that something isn't quite right, and to allay any fears they may have about ear tube surgery.
Getting Ready for My Ear Tube Surgery is written by a board-certified anesthesiologist, Fei Zheng-Ward, and is part of a wonderful series of kids' medical books. I have read others in the series, and I must say, I would have been glad to have had these books as a guide when I was younger. This book is written in plain, simple language, with clear pronunciation guides for the difficult words. The illustrations help tell the story, and the book offers clear advice on what to expect and how to recover from the surgery. It's also an interactive book, asking questions to get kids more involved and tell their own stories. It should not be used as the only medical advice but as a support tool to help kids understand and it is a fun way for them to do that. This entire series is a great way to alleviate the fears kids might have about surgery, which can seem scary, and turn it into something simple and fun. Highly recommended, not just this book but the whole series.
