Glaciers Melt & Mountains Smoke by Joe Moore is the last book of the Santa Claus trilogy. North Pole is slowly melting and joining the Arctic Ocean due to declining nature and the warm environment. Santa realizes that the lives of the villagers there are in danger. He wants to find a new village for them to live. The book contains stories about Santa and Mrs. Claus, their reindeer, elves, and the people living around them. The book also has real stories which date back many years. It is an insightful book the opens readers' eyes.

The book addresses the global warming dangers faced by the universe in general. The underlying theme of that, coupled with the story of Santa and the villagers of the North Pole, makes it an interesting read. I was keen to find out whether Santa would be able to find a new home for the North Pole villagers while I was reading. The starkness and chill of the North Pole is captured beautifully. I liked the concept of writing a book from the viewpoint of Santa and Mrs. Claus. That is something really novel and unique.

The language is very elegant. The descriptions of the North Pole and the related events are picturesque and they lend a sort of surrealist feel to the story. It is a book that also gives a general awareness to readers about the calamities that are going to happen to us due to global warming.

What would happen if the North Pole began sinking into the sea and Santa and the Elves had to leave? That is the point of Glaciers Melt & Mountains Smoke by Joe Moore. In the second book of The North Pole Chronicles, the inevitable melting of the pack ice supporting the North Pole Village forces Santa and the Elves to enlist the aid of Santa Ambassadors (professional Mall Santas)and other ‘Tallfolk’ versed in different aspects of science and technology to move all the facilities associated with the traditional ‘Christmas Town’ to a new location. But where should the ‘North Pole’ be if not actually at the North Pole? Mrs. Kringle is in charge of selecting a new, secret location where Santa’s village can be built that takes shipping routes, chance of discovery, and adequate natural resources into consideration. With time running out as spring temperatures warm the waters around the North Pole, will everyone succeed in saving Santa’s work-shop and all the other elements that are required to support the elves and put Christmas together every year?

Joe Moore has created an engaging story in Glaciers Melt & Mountains Smoke that presents some interesting concepts and questions about our environment and our personal interactions with one another. Without preaching, Mr. Moore conveys the need for cooperation and environmental awareness as well as good old friendship and cooperation. Nick and Mary Kringle, their sons, and all the elves are well-developed characters and the action, although fantastic in many regards, is actually quite realistic. Glaciers Melt & Mountains Smoke is a pleasure to read and heartwarming in its delivery.
