Guidance and Encouragement From Isaiah by Dionne Laborde was inspired by the author’s desire to share the benefits experienced by studying the book. Chapter One introduces Isaiah’s calling. The prophet lived in the eighth century BC and delivered messages to four of the kings of Judah. These included rebukes, assurances, and a range of instructions to people who had fallen into sin. The book of Isaiah contains powerful and beautiful promises that the Messiah would come. It tells us God longs to help. He punishes evil but also promises to bless. Beautiful descriptions of the New Earth are found in the book of Isaiah. The study is followed by seventy-one positive affirmations.
Guidance and Encouragement From Isaiah by Dionne Laborde spoke directly to me as the modern reader, making the ancient prophet’s message more accessible. I liked the way the author drew connections between the prophecy of Isaiah and other insights from the Bible. I felt uplifted when the chapter urged me to exercise my faith and claim God’s promises to Israel and Judah as my own. I enjoyed the passages that encouraged me to praise God for all he has done. As the author extrapolated the ways she applied the message to her own life, I was prompted to think seriously about my own spiritual experience. I enjoyed the sections that testified to the power and influence of God in historical times and offered insights relevant to today. This book would make an excellent addition to any devotional collection.
