Happily Ever Awkward by Macee McNeill is a contemporary romance that follows Dominic Parker, a small-town pharmacist who prides himself on being dependable, and Lydia Merritt, a wedding planner trying to rebuild her life after an abusive marriage. When Lydia moves to Honeysuckle Creek for a fresh start, she is determined to prove herself at the prestigious Rochester House. In doing so, she crosses paths with Dom, who is engaged to a woman ill-suited for small-town life. As Lydia works to give Dom and his fiancée their perfect wedding, an undeniable attraction sparks between her and the groom-to-be. Dom, ever the responsible man, refuses to acknowledge his growing feelings until fate, awkward moments, and undeniable chemistry force him to reconsider. But is it possible to rewrite a perfect plan for an imperfect but genuine love?
Author Macee McNeill utilizes a natural gift for characters and emotion to give us a charming and heartfelt romance with a delightful sense of humor. I was most impressed by the way that each of the well-developed cast members in the story felt authentic and relatable, each with their struggles that added to the tapestry of the tale. Honeysuckle Creek feels like a homely, adorable place to be right from the start, and this beautifully depicted small-town setting adds warmth and charm to the story with cinematic touches to make it all so easy to imagine. The slow-burn romance was filled with tension and awkward, yet endearing moments that kept the plot fresh and always left me wanting more. Overall, Happily Ever Awkward is a story I would certainly recommend to romance fans.
