Haunted and Possessed by Lillian Sinclair is aptly subtitled Love from Beyond the Grave, an unusual romance and the first book in The Shadowy Sisterhood. An abused woman, Miranda McCormick, runs away from her marital home. She goes back to her origins, to the home of her ancestors. Now she must face the ghost who’s loved her all along. The problem is that she finds it irresistible and secluded from the world and she has to make the decision to explore the flood of powerful emotions that assail her. Can surrendering to the ghost be the path that heals her from her troubling nightmares, and can accepting to get involved with it set it free? There is only one way to find out.
The reader is drawn into the story from the first pages, with Miranda driving away from her marital home, sealing her divorce. But where is she going? The reader immediately understands, from her stream of consciousness, that the marriage might have been a form of escape after all. It could have been what her mother has called “the Miranda’s Problem.” Now she is going back to it, moving irresistibly to what could be her doom. The psychological conflict starts right at this moment and it becomes so powerfully developed that readers will soon become absorbed by it. Lillian Sinclair’s writing is clear and simple, with emotionally charged dialogue. Haunted and Possessed is a short but compelling story, a tale that showcases the power of love, featuring themes like love and redemption, sacrifice and mortality, and a romance beyond the tomb. An entertaining and quick read.
