Heart Note by Cassandra O’Leary is a Christmas romcom novella set in Australia. Lily Lucas is the manager at the perfume store counter in a large department store. With Christmas just around the corner, the store is full of Christmas cheer and decorations and Lily is up to her ears in selling and wrapping gifts. The head of security, Christos Cyriakos, is the gift that Lily wants to be wrapped up under her Christmas tree, but he has a secret or two that he wants to be kept hidden. When a bunch of thieves start to cause trouble in the store, all Lily wants is to catch them and to catch Christos but, when things to start to leak out about his real reason for being there, Lily has to wonder if she can trust him. Why is Christos there and is it really too much for Lily to ask to catch him under the mistletoe?
Heart Note: A Christmas Romcom Novella by Cassandra O’Leary is a nice story with lots of action and lots of humor. It is a fast-moving story, seemingly disjointed to start with as it is told only from the point of view of our main protagonist, but it does all become clear later in the story, and it does all join together neatly. It’s a feel-good story with a bit of mystery thrown in for good measure, a proper Christmas cheer tale with plenty of believable and real characters to get to know and I can’t fault the character development. Overall, a nice story, and I enjoyed the read.
