Her Best Man by Jana Richards is a story that starts off with every woman’s worst nightmare: being dumped in front of her friends and family on her wedding day. But Jana Richards has proven she has a way to turn humiliation into humor. After the very public dumping by her daughter's ex-fiance Brad, Sarah’s mom attacks the groom, taking the bride not-to-be’s humiliation to a new level. Sarah needs a quiet and private place to lick her wounds and that place is clearly not with her hysterical mother with whom she lives. So she takes the ticket for her honeymoon cruise and uses it. Brad realizes his mistake immediately and has thoughts of wooing Sarah back, so he gives his aspiring novelist brother, Will, the cruise ticket. This surprise turns out to be the start of a wonderful friendship and perhaps a whole lot more.

Jana Richards created a pretty amazing heroine in Sarah. Rather than wallowing in self-pity and allowing rubbernecking well-wishers to invade her space, she gets on that cruise ship and worries about herself. She leaves her melodramatic mother and awful Aunt Mabel at home and heads for international waters. After the initial awkwardness, Sarah and Will get on really well, challenging each other to do things outside their comfort zones. Their love story was so much fun. Their adventures drew them closer together which, I think, enhanced the love story. Will helped Sarah realize her strength and she supported his dream, and together they made pretty great friends and fantastic lovers.
