In Hiding Places by E.J. Post, Ellie and Tom enjoy a happy marriage and look forward to starting a family. As an ER physician assistant, Ellie takes on various assignments nationwide, while Tom often joins her whenever possible. On a weekend getaway, their Sunday morning brunch turned into a nightmare when a gunman began shooting in the restaurant. Ellie was taken by surprise, and just as she looked up, she caught Tom’s shocked expression before he collapsed and lay still. Ellie heard a man struggling for breath on the floor and pulled James behind the bar with her for safety. Ellie became a heroine during this tragedy by making a tough choice, but her circumstances changed drastically when she was put on trial.

Hiding Places by E.J. Post captured my attention initially and kept me intrigued until the last page. I found myself on the edge of my seat throughout the entire story, eagerly flipping through the pages. The plot delved into the grief experienced by Ellie and James and how they leaned on each other for comfort amidst their tragedy. The portrayal of their grief was handled with sensitivity and deep compassion. The characters felt genuine and relatable. Ellie was deeply affected by the incident and burdened with guilt for not being able to save Tom. The way Ellie and James' relationship evolved into something deeper felt natural and fitting. The writing style was captivating, allowing me to feel immersed in Ellie's struggles and anxiety. The conclusion was nothing short of remarkable, exceeding all my expectations.
