His Forever Muse, the second installment in C.R. Alam’s Echo Series, takes us on a journey of past crushes and renewed passion to find forever love. Brandon Rossi, the charismatic rockstar of the band Canis Major and a multifaceted artist, finds himself struggling with a creative block and decides to find his inspiration through travel. In Morocco, he is reunited with his best friend’s sister, Calliope Chen-Bisset, in an unexpected encounter, and she helps reignite his inspiration. Calliope, now a Parisian art gallerist, has rebuilt her life after her traumatic past with her ex-partner, Philippe. When these two childhood friends separated by time, distance, and circumstances reunite, they find their connection to be as strong as ever. As they rekindle their bond, they have to confront obstacles from their past and present that threaten their budding romance. Brandon is ready to jump into the relationship with his all, but will Calliope’s past thwart their chance at lasting happiness?
I looked forward to reading Brandon’s story after encountering his character in Echoing Hearts, the first book in the series, and with His Forever Muse, C.R. Alam did not disappoint. The story picks up where it ended in the last book, with familiar characters, and introduces us to new characters as the narrative progresses. I loved Callie as much as I did Brandon. She is portrayed as someone who had her struggles, who made the wrong decision, but had the strength to get out of the situation and build a life for herself. She does not wait for the knight in shining armor to rescue her but decides to take the reins into her own hands and empower herself. Using multiple perspectives, C.R. Alam weaves the narrative in such a manner that I felt like I was a part of the group of Brandon and Callie’s friends. In between the suspense and humor, there was enough romance filling the pages to keep the story interesting. However, I also appreciate how the author addressed domestic violence and the scars it is bound to leave while infusing the story with hope and joy. If you are a fan of romance and suspense, add this book to your TBR pile.
