How Alligator Got His Smile Back by Jayne Moraski is a delightful storybook for children about the friendship of an Alligator and a Frog. The Frog always bragged about how fast he swam, without realizing that the Alligator was slowing down to let him win. But as the Frog's bragging increased, it began to hurt the Alligator. Every night the Frog would sing loudly, 'Frogs are special. We are grand. We live on water and land.' The Alligator was sad and shed tears. Many creatures came to console the Alligator and they decided to tell this to the Great Spirit.
The book has many profound messages and teaches kids new things. The book is perfect for kids because of its story line about friendship. It is also educational as it teaches the difference between amphibians and reptiles and about what makes mangroves special and their contribution to the environment. Parents and grandparents should use this as a bedtime story book as there is a lot to teach and convey to youngsters. It is also ideal for read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries.
I think books with messages, concepts, good ideas, thoughts and educational themes will be helpful to children to read during their early years when character formation is taking place. The interactive exercises at the end of the book are helpful and the beautiful illustrations give life and movement to all the creatures and scenes.
