How to Declutter by ElowenBooks will help you to declutter your home, car, and potentially even your life. Clutter, defined as anything you don’t use once a year, can be interpreted as not caring about yourself or it can be a indication that you fear losing things or not having enough. When you have clutter, you can be paralyzed by it and not know where to start. But if you do start in one place, you can break that cycle of paralysis and stagnation by clutter. There are so many reasons to declutter. It is better for your health not to have all that dust around. Clutter can also cause tripping hazards or fire hazards. It can also make you less efficient. Imagine looking for an item when there are piles of disorganized stuff everywhere.
Start in an organized fashion. Choose one room to start with, either the messiest or the one that people see most often such as the living room or bathroom. The kitchen is also vitally important because it must be sanitary to prepare safe food. Set a time limit and get 3 boxes. Label one giveaway, one trash and one put away. Put all the clutter in these boxes--anything that is not in its logical place where it should be. When this is done you can take out the trash, give away things or put them in your car to take to give away, and take the put away box and put everything where it belongs. Do the same in the next room. Once this is all done you can begin actually cleaning the surfaces now that you can see them. The next chapter goes into how to clean each room.
Following that process, you can sell items to get rid of on Craigslist or eBay or at a garage sale. There is also a process known as upcycling. This is taking unused items and making them useful; for instance, making a new slipcover for an old chair to give it a fresh look. There are so many good tips in this book and yet it is simple and concise. How to Declutter would be great for anyone who can’t seem to get a handle on their house cleaning. The same process can be used in the car, office, or basement.
